Golf lovers hoping to agree to the Masters will have to wait for full television cover to start as organizers adhere to their traditional broadcast model.
The first men’s major of the year, founded in 1934, is held in Augusta in Georgia, with about 90 of the world’s best golfers struggling to put on the famous green jacket.
Sky Sports is still the exclusive direct broadcasting partner of the event in the United Kingdom, but although the first golfers will start BST in the first two rounds at 12.40 hours, it is only 7:30 pm that viewers can watch each group directly. In reality it is to the final Group of the day averted BST at 18.45 hours.
There is a ‘proposed group’ cover in advance where players of a selected number of three balls can be shown, but complete direct coverage will only be shown after a number of key players have almost completed their rounds. This is due to the organizers of the Masters that limit the amount of direct coverage that allows the broadcasers to show.
The Augusta National Golf Club has a number of seemingly outdated rules, including a ban on cell phones, and loves to maintain strict control over the opportunity to preserve its prestige and unique feeling.
Significant domestic TV transactions are in favor of a prolonged partnership with CBS in the United States to show the event. However, new technology has been used to improve the offer to viewers. Golf fans can now watch every shot of each player via the Masters app or website, as well as groups and holes before the full coverage begins.
