Angela Rayner, who is also the secretary of communities, met the Council leader John Cotton over the weekend.
She said on Thursday that her department supported the council to remove the backlog, but also called on Unite to suspend their strike and vote to the current wage agreement.
“This dispute causes misery and disruption of residents and the backlog must be handled quickly to address public health risks,” she said.
“There is a significantly improved offer on the table for the workers and I call on Unite to suspend their actions and to accept the offer.”

Members of the Unite Union stopped due to a long -standing dispute over the role of waste recycling and collection officer (WRCO) removed.
