Three gang members were arrested after a series of gang -related crimes in Tairāwhiti Gisborne.
Tairāwhiti police issued a gang conflict warrant on Monday, giving police special search powers to address the recent gang conflict in the area.
He came after eight crimes involving weapons and disorder reported between March 16 and March 23.
Tairāwhiti’s commander of the commander Danny Kirk said the events that preceded the search warrant posed a real risk to the community,
“Police were able to hold offenders responsible for their offenses and send a clear message to gang members that their dangerous behavior will not be tolerated,” Kirk said.
A 20 -year -old man faced accusations of possession of an offensive weapon, a prohibited display of gang insignia and possession of methamphetamine. He should attend the District Court of Gisborne on May 15.
A 25 -year -old man was accused and convicted of possession of an offensive weapon.
A 49 -year -old man was accused of illegal possession of an imitation weapon and had a warrant of arresting for not attending court for this accusation.
“My focus and the focus of all police officials is to secure public safety,” said Kirk.
“Our team will continue to get involved with gang lead and make it clear that we will continue to take any necessary action against the offensive members of gangs.
“We still demand the help of the community, and people can do so reporting any illegal or suspicious activity to police 111 in an emergency, or 105 for no emergencies.”
