Ryan Abraham is ready to pack his own schoolbag to go to school.

After five seasons of Windsor Spitfires, Abraham will age in junior qualifications after the season, but announced Tuesday that he has found a new hockey home next season.

The 21-year-old Abraham reached an NCAA deal with the Eskimos of Michigan Tech in Holden, Michigan, starting the 2025-26 season.

“It’s cool,” said Abraham, who weighs 168 pounds. “It’s a great school, and hockey is great.”

Abraham, the second-time super player for the Spitfires of Season 2, teamed up with Windsor’s Noah Morneau to join the Bowling Green State Falcons in the 2025-26 season. Similarly, Andrew Robinson, the club’s third-round draft pick last season, has been working on Providence College once his junior career is over.

Morneau announced his commitment to the Falcons after opening the door for Canadian Hockey League players in November at the NCAA, who were once considered professionals who competed for American colleges. Abraham was interested from the beginning, but he made a decision without hesitation.

“I really don’t worry about that,” Abraham said. “I was a little worried about my season and then Michigan Tech called all year round and I finally made the decision.”

Ironically, when Spitfires set Abraham to the 14th pick in 2020, worries were trying to make Michigan’s Livonia a native of Windsor, with many U.S.-born players opting to compete in the NCAA instead of the Canadian Hockey League.

“I never thought I would have a chance to play hockey,” Abraham said. “Now, I can expand my career.”

Abraham’s rookie season with Spitfires was eliminated by the shared 19th pandemic, but in four seasons at the club, he scored 84 goals and 213 points in 223 regular season games, including 29 goals and 66 points in 66 games this season. He added four goals and 15 points in 25 professional playoff games, and the club will open the final Western Conference semifinal against the Kitchener Rangers on Thursday.
