Clayton scored 11 points in the second half, but what he will be remembered is to let Houston’s Emanuel Sharp stop in the middle of his move as he tried to win three of the matches in the final seconds.

Instead of becoming the oldest coach to the 69-year-old champion, Sampson is the youngest champion since 1983, the 39-year-old Todd Golden became the youngest champion since Jim Valvano of North Carolina State in 1983.
