A tsunami alert was canceled for Papua -Nieu -Guinea to a strong range of 6.9 earthquake, according to the US geological survey.
The earthquake was shallow and hit local time on Saturday morning at the Pacific Island at a depth of 10 km (6 miles). It was abroad, 194 km (120 miles) east of the city of Kimbe, centered on the island of New Britain.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center later issued a warning that was issued immediately after the jerk warned against waves of 1 to 3 meters next to some parts of the papua coast line in New Guinea. A warning of smaller waves of 0.3 million issued for nearby Solomon Islands was also turned off.
There were no immediate reports about damage. Just over 500,000 people live on the island of New Britain.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology said there is no tsunami threat to the country, which is the nearest neighbor of Papua New Guinea. No warning was issued for New Zealand.
Papua -Nieu -Guinea sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, the bow of seismic errors around the Pacific where a large part of the world’s earthquake and volcanic activity occurs.
