A Tsunami warning was issued for Papua New Guinea after a strong earthquake of 6.9 struck the Pacific Island, according to the US Tsunami Warning Center.
The earthquake is focused 194 km east of Kimbe, the capital of the province of Western New Britain, according to the geological survey of the United States. He hit Saturday morning local time.
“The dangerous tsunami waves are predicted for some shores,” said the US tsunami warning center after the earthquake.
The faithful tsunami waves from 1 to 3 meters are possible on parts of the coastline of Papua New Guinea, according to the tsunami threat forecast.
The wave waves are less than 0.3 meters for the nearby Solomon islands, according to forecast.
