A man who was shot dead by police after moving “quickly” to officers was named David Joyce.
The 38-year-old man, who lived in Milton Keynes, received first aid by officers, but died at the scene on Tuesday.
The Independent Police Office (IOPC) office has called on witnesses to come forward.
The IOPC said its investigators collected a knife and other evidence of the outside Milton Keynes Railway Station from Tuesday afternoon.
Police watchdog said: ‘No other weapons were recovered from the scene. Police cordon on the scene was lifted last night (April 2).
“We were advised by us [Thames Valley Police] Those firearms officers were sent to the station shortly before 1pm after a 999 call reporting that there was a man with a gun on the scene.
‘We saw the body officers’ body material and a significant amount of CCTV footage and determined that the man was running around 134 Nm just outside the main entrance of the train station with a knife in his hand and to the officers.
‘Soon after, the man was shot up close. We have determined that a single shot was fired by one officer. ‘
The next of kin of Mr. Joyce was notified and he was formally identified during a post -mortem on Thursday morning (April 3).
It is said that the preliminary cause of death is a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Derrick Campbell, director of IOPC, said: ‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this man and everyone affected by this tragic incident.
“Since a man died after being shot by police, our role is to investigate all the circumstances surrounding this incident independently, including the actions and decisions the police have made.
“We appreciate that this incident outside of a busy train station will understand a concern. We know that the community wants answers quickly and that our investigators work hard to determine the facts while working together what happened and how.
“We have obtained details of some members of the public who saw the incident we were going to contact with, but we know that there were many people near the station around the time of the shooting, and we want to hear from everyone who saw the incident or it.
“We contacted the man’s family and will meet with them soon to explain our role. We will keep them updated regularly during our investigation.”
