NYC Mayor Adams will skip Democratic primary and run for reelection as an independent

New York Mayor Eric Adams said on Thursday that he would withdraw from the democratic primary city of the city and instead run for re -election as an independent candidate, arguing that his federal bribery charges had made it impossible to carry out a major campaign.

In a video, Adams, whose criminal case was rejected on Wednesday, said he would not run into the democratic primary in June as the case “dragged too long” while “false charges were detained over me.”

“I firmly believe that this city is better served than a truly independent leadership, not leaders, removed from the extremists to the left or the end right, but instead those who root in the common environment, the place where the bigger part of the New Yorkers are firmly planted,” Adams said.

The decision came after intensive speculation about whether Adams would remain in the democratic primary, which attracted several serious opponents, including former New York governor Andrew Kuomo.
