British tennis player Fran Jones was forced to withdraw from the Colsanitas Cup in Bogota after collapsing in the middle of a match.
In footage of the incident posted on social media, it seemed that the 24-year-old did not return them in the third set of Argentina’s Julia Riera and he could not play again.
She falls to the ground and is removed from court in a wheelchair.
Jones’ retirement from the tournament was confirmed in an online statement.
“As a result of a physical issue, Francesca Jones withdrew from her match against Julia Riera at 6-2 5-7 5-3 in favor of the Argentine,” said the official X COLSANITAS CUP account.
“We wish the British tennis player a quick recovery.”
Riera will face America’s Iva Jovic next year in the round of 16.
In the US, British number seven Heather Watson had a defeat in the first round of the Charleston Open.
The 32-year-old man was beaten 7-6 (8) 6-4 by the Belo-Russian World Number 215 Iryna Shymanovich.
Watson saved three set points during a close opener, but could not take one of her one opportunity to utilize the initiative during the bang.
The world number 182 was broken four times in set two, including in her last two service matches, as Shymanovich advanced to one last 32 meeting with top seed Jessica Pegula, the beaten finalist at the US Open last year.
