Another 23 women say they were raped by a Chinese PhD student feared to be one of the country’s most productive sexual predators.
University College London (UCL) student Zhenhao Zou, 28, was convicted last month of drugs and rape of ten women, whose attacks he filmed with hidden cameras to keep souvenirs. Only two of the victims have ever been identified.
Judge Rosina Cottage said Zou is a ‘dangerous and predator’ offender and warned him that he was facing a ‘very long’ prison sentence when sentenced in June.
Police have issued a global appeal to other victims to come forward after revealing that they found videos that were assaulted at least 50 unidentified women by Zou, who also held a trophy box of the victims’ belongings, including jewelry and clothing.
He targeted young Chinese women and invited them to his apartment for drinks or to study before they had drug and assaulted.
Detectives revealed this week that more than 20 women have already emerged and investigating police if they can identify among the unknown victims.
Metropolitan Police commander Kevin Southworth thanked the women for bravely emerged, adding: ‘We reached out to us victims from different parts of the world.
“Right now, the primary places where we believe that offended at this time have seemed to be both in England, here in London and over in China.”
He warned that “there is every potential that he could be one of the most productive offenders we have ever seen” and urged the victims to make contact.
He added: “Given how active and productive Zou apparently with his horrible offense, there is every prospect that he would have offended all over the world.
“We don’t want anyone to have written off the fact that they were a victim of his behavior, simply because you are of a certain place.
“The most important point is, if you think you may have been affected by Zhenhao Zou or someone you know, please do not hold back. Please make contact with us. ‘
During his trial at the Inner London Crown Court, Zou told Juriel members that his favorite type of pornography was ‘time-stop’, containing women who are immobile or sleeping.
The analysis of graphic and disturbing material on his devices has enabled police to expose the extent of his offense, with investigators finding more than 1,660 hours of footage.
Mr. Southworth added: “In the end, it is now the task of the investigative team to choose ourselves through the individual evidence, the stories of those individual victims, to see if we can identify who was a victim, when and where, so that we can bring Zou ready for the full extent of his crimes.”
Zou moved to the UK for the first time in 2017 to study at Queen’s University in Belfast, before studying for a PhD at the prestigious UCL in 2019. He lived in student halls in Bloomsbury during that period before moving to the luxury uncle building in South London.
He was considered a ‘model student’ and was cozy in the UK in the UK and attended nightclubs and threw parties.
It was during this period that he also acknowledged that he consumed Class A medicine such as cocaine and ketamine. He also underwent plastic surgery that included a hair transplant and changes to his eyelids, chin and teeth.
Zou was convicted of 11 rape counts, with two of the offenses relating to one victim, as well as three counts of voyeurism, 10 of possession of an extreme pornographic image, one of false imprisonment and three of possession of a controlled drug, butaniol, with the aim of committing a sexual offense.
He was discharged from two further charges of possession of an extreme pornographic image, one of the possession of MDMA with the aim of committing a sexual offense, and four charges of possession of ketamine for the purpose of committing a sexual offense.
The Metropolitan Police are calling on anyone who thinks they have been targeted by Zou to contact the power by either emailing to survivors@met.police.uk, or by emailing the major incident portion on the Force’s website.
