Liberal leader Mark Carney suspended his federal campaign and returned to Ottawa for a meeting before U.S. President Donald Trump announced tariffs.
Trump is expected to reach multiple countries with “reciprocal” tariffs.
Carney’s campaign said there were no details about the meeting.
Carney said Canadians are facing “the biggest crisis of our lives” as Trump tries to reshape the U.S. economy and weaken Canada.
Apart from the expected “reciprocity tariffs,” it is unclear whether temporary pauses across various economic scopes in Canada and Mexico will end tomorrow.
Trump said in early March that the pause would last until April 2.
