Sam Draper’s weird routine works, the AFL created a Gold Coast monster and Brisbane’s unmatched resilience — what we learned from round three

A strange routine continues to bear fruit for Sam Draper, the lions remain compounds while playing from behind and the Suns continue to obtain rewards from AFL’s friendly hand.

This is what we learned from the third round of the AFL season.

Draper continues to nail his strange shooting routine

Essendon Ruckman Sam Draper now has 6.2 in the season and is the scorer equally for the pumps for the season along with Zach Merrett.

One of the most interesting aspects of the first three Essendon games has been anticipation and then the reaction when Draper marks the ball within 50.

If it is within 30 meters, Draper has chosen to go for a very methodical routine of screams in which he puts aside the goal similar to the English rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson.

All routine is the Absolute Theater and Draper, Ever The Showman, loves to order it to the fullest. He nailed another couple in the important victory of the pumpers over the port on Thursday night.

After taking a mark, he will slowly mark his career and then put himself completely on his side to the goal where he then extends the ball as if he were a waiter in an elegant restaurant that serves Canapés to the guests.

Essendon fans, presumably already frustrated by the last two decades of their club, exploit absolutely every time this happens. The cameras flash fans with their hands before there are very audible relief cheers as the ball passes through a goal. Draper generally tells the crowd to calm them or promote them, sometimes simultaneously. Everything is brilliant.

So far this season, Draper has not yet lost one of his shots in the corner. He also pierced a regulation kick with a shot from beyond in the first round.

Set Shot Kicking is about finding a routine that works for you and then sticking to it. Credit to Big Man Bombers for working clearly on it during the low season and then executing the skill wonderfully so far.

Liberatore establishes the tone for bulldogs

There are victories during the course of the year that define the season of a club, and the victory back to the Bulldogs over Carlton could be just that.

The dogs were excellent on Friday night against the blues, canceling an early four -goal deficit, and turned the script in a heated third quarter where there seemed to be a melee per minute.

In the middle of all was the scrapper-in-chief of the club, the veteran midfielder and substantial pattern Tom Liberatore.

Liberatore is as great as the tone as in competition. Even when dogs are completely supplied, when Liberatore is awake, his teammates walk higher. This influence is even more pronounced with dogs that currently launch a center of the puree units field without Marcus Bonmpelli and Adam Treloar.

Liberatore has been silent one of the best authorization players of his generation, and his love for doing dirty work has allowed stars such as Bonmpelli, Treloar and Jack Macrae before this season thrive around them.

The 32-year-old has been tremendous in three games this season, with an average of 30.7 provisions and 7.7 authorizations by contest, and is allowing dogs 2-1 to remain afloat until the cavalry arrives.

The center of the Suns field, created by AFL, is scary

We have waited for the Gold Coast Suns to officially arrive for a decade and a half, and finally it could be happening.

The victory of 58 Gold Coast points over Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday afternoon was alarming for a couple of reasons.

First, the Suns arrived at the game as they expected to win, something that has been a rarity for this club away from home since he entered the competition.

Secondly, the Suns absolutely mistreated a center of the field that, at least on paper, was so loaded with a group in the center of the field as it will find in the AFL.

Gold Coast won the 40-24 authorization count, including a 16-8 figure in the center spaces of the center, and continued what has been a central theme for the side of Damien Hardwick through its first two games.

The Suns are averaging 45 authorizations for game so far this season, tied with the lions. It is early, but they project to be one of the most dominant authorization teams that we have seen in the last decade.

The 42.2 GWS brand authorizations per game, established in 2017, is the highest number of a single team in the last 10 years and it would not be a surprise to see the Suns run them closely.

Charging…

Central for everything has been the two -headed midfield monster that is Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson. The two best options in the 2019 Draft are averaging a combined disposition of 68.5 and 17.5 Authorizations per contest.

The Suns were able to write Rowell and Anderson after receiving an AFL assistance pack before the 2019 Draft and are now reaping the AFL HQ help rewards.

Assistance packages and priority selections remain a thorny issue in AFL. If the Suns end up gathering some dominant years, we will surely listen much more about the 2019 assistance package.

Brisbane runs for another opponent

There is no team in the AFL that feels more comfortable playing from behind than the Brisbane lions.

Lions annihilated significant deficits against the GWS Giants and Geelong En-Route to win the prime minister last year, and are demonstrating to be the teachers of the return once again.

The clash of Saturday night against the Cats saw the lions cut a deficit of 32 points and it all started seconds before the half -weather siren.

Geelong dominated the second quarter when Brisbane had a last front entrance. Like most of his entries in the first half, he was messy and three defenders of Geelong seemed to easily prepare the last seconds before the break.

Among them was Norm Smith medalist last year, Will Ashcroft, who took advantage of a couple of cats to win a free kick for holding the ball. Ashcroft returned and stuck the shot and Brisbane left the doors a completely different outfit in the third term.

Chris Fagan will not be excited about his team detecting five goals of five goals in opponents in the last two weeks, but he would love the way they have worked on the contest both times.

The lions are a veteran side now, after having made several final finals with this same group of players, so it is not surprising that they are a little more flat during the sections of games early in the house and out season.

The good news from a Brisbane perspective is that the lions have played anywhere near their best football for four quarters and still have a 3-0 record. Wait until you start clicking.
