‘Stop being about money’: workers gather against retirement domestic changes

Again care workers gathering against possible changes in the list say Bupa, which manages retirement houses across the country, needs to focus on care instead of money.

Bupa proposed a new list system that, according to him, will ensure care and services to residents in their homes, better corresponding to the team’s skills with the needs of their residents.

Union members joined outside the Bupa headquarters in Auckland on Tuesday, singing and shaking signs asking for safe personnel.

The former ngahuia bup -functional said patients need to be placed first.

“Stop being about money, whether it is over the person,” she said.

“We are there for our kaumātua … What I want, I want to change, I want the bup to start looking at the person, making it a priority, forget the money.”

Another Ecenessa Mutimuti protester said the workers were exhausted.

“Care and nurses are looking [for] Somewhere better than that, “she said.

Mutimuti said the situation was getting difficult.

Bupa told RNZ that the proposal would increase the total assistance time to the available list.

“We hope most people can take shifts to work additional hours, if they wish, and our preference is to keep our people. We will continue to work closely with our team when we announce a final decision tomorrow,” said a gate.

“We recognize that change is challenging and we are supporting our staff, including providing a long period of time to send feedback as part of the consultation process.”
