Woman, 61, dies in multi-vehicle collision west of Edmonton: RCMP

A 61-year-old woman from Seba Beach died and five people were taken to hospital after a collision involving at least 12 vehicles, including a semi-trailer unit west of Edmonton.

On March 28, Parkland County Royal Canadian Mounted Police received reports of multiple collisions on Highway 16 in the area of ​​Highway 60 shortly after 9 a.m., police said in a press release on Monday.

“The initial collision involved an SUV hit by a semi-trawling unit, and road conditions were definitely a factor in the collision,” said Alberta RCMP CPL. Troy Savinkoff.

“After the initial vehicles (including other vehicles) and several trailer units (collision scenes), several collisions occurred, hit their brakes, lost control and caused more collisions.”

Savinkoff said one of the others in the crash was in a serious but stable condition, and four others were undergoing minor injuries.

The RCMP responded to 147 collisions Thursday and Friday morning after a Clippers storm in Alberta caused severe damage to highways and roads.

Fortunately, there were no deaths in the collision Thursday, but the horrible weather and road conditions on Friday resulted in three deaths across the province.

A nine-year-old girl died in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 36 and Highway 13 east of Killam.

Police said the 9-year-old girl died at the scene, and a 13-year-old boy from the same vehicle and a 43-year-old man in the hospital on Saturday.

Savinkoff told Postmedia on Monday that a man died on Friday in a collision between a Red Arrow Transport bus and a vehicle near Redwater.

Police are still investigating the deadly collision, but Savinkoff said he doesn’t think any charges will be filed.
