Dogs that killed Timothy Tu’uaki Rolleston-Bryan, near Katikati on Friday, were sacrificed.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council said their animal service officers helped police remove three adult dogs from a property north of Katikati in the Tuapiro area around 3:45 pm after the fatal attack.

The Alison Curtis Board Gate confirmed that the owner signed the dogs to the custody of the board and they were sacrificed on Monday afternoon.

“This is an absolute tragedy, and our thoughts are with the Whmen who are now facing an unimaginable loss.

“Our team acted professionally and carefully in extremely difficult circumstances, and I want to recognize their efforts to support police and help ensure that there are no more risk of public safety. We will continue to support the police while leading the investigation.

“At this stage, we have not totally confirmed the primary races of the dogs involved. We are adopting a cautious and responsible approach – and we will disclose this information when we are confident that they are accurate.

“We are also aware not to share anything that can compromise police investigation.”

As it was an active police issue, Curtis said the board would no longer make comments.
