Taxpayers in South Dakota have picked up a massive $ 150,000 to help finance the then Governor Kristi’s cross-country flights last year, new analysis showed.
The bills, which ran during her time as governor and during the re-election campaign of President Donald Trump, contain nearly $ 8,000 for airline tickets to a right-wing conference in Paris, a book tour by New York and a bear hunt to Canada, according to the Associated Press, who collected the data. Name also went on “many” trips to Trump’s then home in Palm Beach, Florida, while she continued to rise the Maga movement’s ranks.
The news agency also reported mentioned about $ 2,200 on a visit to a dental clinic in Texas.
She refused to say what trips of taxpayers cost, but in the weeks since mentioning Trump’s secretary of domestic safety, the mystery was resolved.
In an Associated Press analysis of the recently released travel records, more than $ 150,000 has been found in expenses linked to Name’s political and personal activity and not South Dakota business.
Most of these costs cover the state -providing security that accompanied mention, regardless of the reason for her journey. Over her six years as governor, the AP’s analysis shows, South Dakota has covered more than $ 640,000 in travel-related costs incurred by the Governor’s Office.
The expenses, released last month after a lawsuit by The Dakota Scouthave embarked on Republicans in the deep red state, with several IDP lawmakers calling them to use state funds to use her own political rise.
The revelations come at a time when federal spending is under the spotlight, with the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency that makes mass cut.
The expenses ‘insult a lot of people’, says Dennis Daugaard, a former governor of the South Dakota, who added that the costs generated by Name’s ambition for higher office could be paid with campaign funds.
Taffy Howard, a GOP state senator who, with naming bots over her refusal to disclose her travel expenses, expressed the price of the price. “It looks like an incredible amount of money,” Howard said.
A spokesman for mention, Tim Murtaugh, did not want to answer detailed questions about the expenses, but did not dispute that some of the journey did not have an apparent connection with state enterprises. There is no indication that the former governor has violated any laws with the Security Expenditure Bill – even on trips that, according to critics, benefited her more than taxpayers in South Dakota.
“Unfortunately, bad guys tend to make threats against public officials,” Murtaugh said. “When it was a political or personal journey, she paid for her own journey from her political or personal funds.”
Murtaugh questioned why Democratic Governors were not being investigated after their journey on behalf of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“They maintained aggressive political schedules on behalf of Kamala Harris, but somehow escaped the attention of the media for costs, while Kristi mentions another standard?” Murtaugh wrote in ‘Ne -mail.
Josie Harms, a spokesman for the successor to Name, said safety requirements were “a matter of state enterprise, regardless of where the governor could be.”
“The extent of that safety is not to the governor,” Harms added.
During her tenure, mention frequently said that the release of the travel costs would endanger her safety.
This is not the first time that Name’s journey and finances have come under the microscope. A council for the liability of the state government in 2022 asked an investigation into her use of the state plane to attend political opportunities, but a prosecutor found no grounds for charges.
In 2021 she came under lap because she allegedly used underpaid prison labor to create a hand -cut wooden table worth $ 9,000, according to The daily animal.
