A strong 7.0 -sized earthquake hit Tonga, who asked an initial tsunami warning that was later lifted to the Pacific Land.
According to the US geological survey, the earthquake was hit at a depth of 29 kilometers (18 miles) and was centered about 100 kilometers northeast of the main island in the early hours of Monday morning. Hours later, a second earthquake of 6.1 hit the same area.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issued a warning to the first earthquake that says dangerous waves could be possible, but later said that there was no longer a tsunami threat. A warning was also canceled by the country’s disaster management office hours later.
Tsunami -sirenes could be heard after the 1:18 pm that requested residents to move domestic in a direct video flowed by the Tonga Sollows Commission. People in the capital, Nuku’alofa, were seen how domestically or to higher land moved before officials gave the inhabitants of course to return home.
There were no initial reports about casualties, TBC said, and Tongans posted on social media reported that they could post calls with the most inhabited island chains that make up the country. It was too soon to know the extent of any damage, which would be judged in daylight, the broadcaster added, but no one was reported immediately.
Tongan Taekwondo athlete Pita Taufatofua posted on Facebook that items dropped out of the shelves and fell off the walls and photos of the walls during the shake.

Tonga is a country in Polynesia consisting of 171 islands with a population of just over 100,000 people, most of whom live on the main island Tongatapu. It is 1,800 km (1,100 miles) North East of New Zealand and located on the Pacific of Fire, a tectonic region of earthquakes and volcanoes.
The low -lying island nation was destroyed in 2022 by a tsunami led by a volcanic eruption. Three people are dead.
