Wānaka skier Luca Harrington was crowned the world’s Big Air Freeski world champion of 2025 Fis Freeski after the Switzerland victory this morning.
This is the first time a Kiwi Freeskier has won the event and also marks the first 21 -year world championship title.
Harrington was the main qualifier in today’s finals in Corvatsch, giving him the advantage of falling into each of the three finals.
Big Air Format receives the two best scoring tricks (which should be performed in two different directions) and combines them for a total total score.
Harrington placed a 1980 triple security claw in 1980 for his first race, marking a 92.00, which was a great first score on the board.
Entering his second race, Harrington stepped on his unique trademark switch of 1800 Grab Triple, for which he received a huge 96.75, the highest score of the competition.
Harrington’s third and last race was a victory lap, but knowing that he could perform his first -racing trick in a cleaner way, Harrington entered and put a 1980 security book with a 95.25 trick.
With a total combined score of 192.00, Harrington won the title by a significant margin, 7.75 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Elias Syrja from Finland. Norway Birk Ruud completed the podium.
“I’m so honored that this season was amazing for me, and to overcome everything with the World Champs victory, it’s an honor,” Harrington said.
“It’s a dream of mine coming true and I’m very grateful to be here now.
“This trick [triple corked 1800 Esco Grab] It’s my specialty and I knew I could lower it. That was the cleanest one I had achieved here, it was crazy and I was in shock, I just couldn’t believe it! ”
