The tennis star born in Russia, Daria Kasatkina, is changing loyalties to Australia after the government accepted its permanent residence application.
The number 12 in the world has been playing on the tour as a neutral athlete after Russian and Belarus players were forbidden to compete under their own flags after the invasion of Ukraine from Moscow in Ukraine in 2022.
In an Instagram post, Kasatkina expressed her joy by gaining permanent residence in Australia.
“I am delighted to let everyone know that my permanent residence application has been accepted by the Australian government.
“Australia is a place that I love is incredibly cozy and a place where I feel totally at home.
“I love being in Melbourne and I hope to make my home there.
“As part of this, I am proud to announce that I will represent my new homeland Australia, in my professional tennis career from this moment.”
The 27 -year -old rose as high as number eight in the world and has won eight WTA titles, her best Grand Slam result arrived at the France Open, where she reached the semifinals in 2022.
