James van der Beek is returning to work after cancer treatment with a role in the sequel to his 2024 ‘Sidelined: The Qb and me’ movie.
The star of ‘Dawson’s Creek’, 48, revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, but is now anxious to return in front of the camera after undergoing a treatment and is now officially on board to appear in ‘Side 2: Intercepted’.
Deadline.com reports that James will return to the second Tubi movie along with Drew Ray Tanner, Noah Beck, Siena Agudong, Charlie Gillespie and Roan Curtis
Director Justin Wu said: “I am more than excited that James and Drew return to the sequel: they brought both heart and depth to the first film, and their trip continues in an even bigger way.
“With Charlie and Roan joining the cast, we are raising bets with fresh energy, undeniable talent and new dynamic chemistry.
“Collaborating with this cast has been an absolute joy, and I am very excited to give life to this next chapter with them!”
The film will focus on the history of the Drayton Field Marshal (Beck) and its relationship with his Dallas high school girlfriend (Agudong) with Van der Beek repeating his role as Drayton’s father, Leroy.
The actor recently admitted that he hopes to finish his treatment against cancer and return to work.
He told the ‘extra’ television program: “I feel that I can see the finish line … I am in a healing phase, which is great. I’m going to work again next month. I am really taking this month to relax.
“I made that movie ‘The Qb and Me’, where I touched dad, for tubi, and it was a great success that a sequel were making.
“The children in him are simply great … like someone who touched a lot, like, the melodrama of teenage romance in my youth … They are great. Noah Beck is a sweet soul and yes, they did very well, so they are making a sequel.”
James recently competed in the American version of ‘The Masked Singer’ and enjoyed being able to stay hidden in his disguise and not concentrate on his illness.
He told ‘Extra’: “especially with everything that was happening, and I just announced the health problems I was dealing with, so to be able to put the mask and connect with an audience without that being part of the equation it was really a really beautiful thing. I appreciated the mask.
“The costume itself was heavy as it could be … but the mask I appreciate.”
James – Who is the father of Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah with his wife Kimberly, recently spoke about the “most difficult year of [his] Life “after its cancer diagnosis.
In an Instagram publication, he shared: “I had to come from nose to the nose with death. And all those definitions that mattered so deeply were stripped of me.
“I could no longer be a husband who was useful for my wife. He could no longer be a father who could pick up his children and put them in bed and be there for them. He could not be a supplier because he was not working. He could not even be a butler of the earth because sometimes he was too weak to prune all the trees during the window that you were supposed to make them prune them.”
