This week, one in five Americans (20%) who voted to survey said they wanted their state to join Canada.

“Only 9% of Canadians believe Canada could become the 51st state in the United States. By comparison, 20% of Americans want their state to join Canada and become a Canadian province, a higher percentage of 18 to 34% (30%) of respondents,” the new Léger report said.

The discovery did not surprise Leger Executive Vice President Andrew Enns, who said the United States was “extremely polar” and Trump was “very unpopular” to some Americans who might enjoy the opportunity to join Canada.

“The stance of (Trump) and the Republican Party on hot button issues such as abortion rights and immigration will surely give some Americans a search for shelter in Canada,” Ens wrote in the National Post.

The poll also suggested that only one-third of Americans (35%) support Trump’s tariffs on Canadian imports, while two-thirds of U.S. respondents are worried that border taxes will increase prices in regular grocery stores such as milk, eggs and meat.

The poll was conducted from March 21 to March 24 and conducted a sample of 1,599 Canadians and 1,012 Americans through an online team. While the error of error cannot be applied to the online panel, the probability sample of this size will be 2.5% of the Canadian sample, while the probability of the US sample is 3.08%, which is 20 times in 20 times.
