One of the country’s top conservative strategists has just helped Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford win a considerable majority, saying Pierre Poilievre is desperate to create a hub and start talking more about voters’ concern for the majority – the U.S. threat – or he risked losing a federal election.
In an interview with CBC News, Kory Teneycke said that it was only a few weeks ago that Poilievre was on track to win most government titles, and now every major poller in the country says it is the liberals who will win. Tynick said the Conservatives would lose if the election was held today.
He said this is because of news that U.S. President Donald Trump and the Conservatives have done insufficiently around trying to stop his tariffs and annexist threats.
Teneycke said it wasn’t just that, there was a style issue – the party’s leader was also “Trump-Y” and he had to make changes quickly.
Teneycke said Poilievre acted and sounded too much like the president, and his pet name was his political opponent (“Carbon Tax Carney”) and engaging slogans (“Big Beautiful Bightic Bring It Tries It Tries It Tries It Tabe It Tabe It Tabe It Take It Take It Thou Home Tage Cut”), which is a disdain for voters and political parties need to win.
“For many voters, this sounds too kingly,” Tnick said.
Teneycke, who held senior positions at former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, including Director of Communications, and then became a strategist at Rubicon, said poilievre has always been “negative” and when you are like this, Poilievre is “negative” and “hard to be liked by the public.”
“More emphasis on positive information needs to be placed on it,” he said.
“And I think you have to be more direct and consistent in terms of information across the United States”
Asked about his downward poll data on Thursday, Poilievre said: “We will wait for Canadians to make their choices on Election Day.”
Responding to a question about some public opinion polls, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said Canadians would make a decision on the polling day.

Ontario Progressive Conservative Polls obtained by CBC News painted a bleak picture of Poilievre, the most populous province in Canada.
Carney’s Liberal range is 48% and the Conservatives are 33%. The poll conducted a survey of 1,902 respondents and was conducted from March 24 to 26. For comparison, the margin of error for a probability sample of similar size was +/- 2.2%, which was 19 times in 20 points.
The Toronto Stars reported the results of internal polls for the first time.
In a speech at Toronto’s Empire Club Wednesday night, Tnick said the current trajectory of the movement is worrying.
“I’m going to file a lawsuit tonight, hoping that this will penetrate into the Conservative War Zone somewhere – you have to address the voting issues that are pushing for a vote or you’re going to lose,” Teneycke said.
Asked about the remarks on Thursday, Poilievre said he was the one who best defended Canada.
“I’m the only one standing in the U.S. President wants liberals to join again,” he said.
Poilievre criticized Trump after the latest tariffs Broadside.
Conservative leaders say Trump unfairly “attacked his closest neighbor and America’s best friend.”
“My message to President Trump is to knock him down. Stop attacking friends in the United States,” he said.
