In a powerful spring storm, about 17,500 customers still have no electricity in a powerful spring storm with ice in central and eastern Ontario.

Hydro One’s blackout graph shows that most of them are in the Peterborough and the Bay of Georgia, both of which were hit by the March 30 ice storm.

In an update Tuesday evening, the utility said it hopes to restore power to most residential customers this weekend unless those who require electrical safety authorities to check due to damage.

At the time, it said that there were still about half of those without power as secondary characteristics, most of whom were not occupied.

More than one million homes and businesses in each province have experienced disruptions due to the storm.

In the days that followed, strong winds and rainy weather hindered the recovery work.
