Thirteen people were injured in an accident between a car and a van in Taranaki.
New Zealand’s fire and emergence said at least some of the injured are children.
Police said the accident happened at Hastings Road in Matapu, southern Taranaki, around 9:55 am on Wednesday.
Four ambulances and four helicopters attended the accident, with two patients transported to Waikato Hospital in serious condition, said St. John.
Two others under moderate conditions were transported to Whanganui Hospital, while nine others were transported by ambulance to Hāwera Hospital and Taranaki Hospital.
Hastings Road, between Skeet and Eltham Roads, will probably remain closed for some time while the accident unit investigated, police said.
