More than 1,000 elementary school students in Windsor and Essex were suspended Monday for incomplete immunization records.
Windsor-Essex County Health Department said in a statement Monday that 1,016 students will be excluded from the school for up to 20 days or until they comply with immunizations under the School Student Act.
The bill stipulates that students must be vaccinated with diphtheria, measles, mumps, polio, rubella and tetanus.

The health department reviewed 45,139 records in the fall and concluded that 98% of primary school students are up-to-date, while 2% still have incomplete records.
Students suspended must provide health departments with records of missing immunity or provide valid explanations.
Once the parent or guardian provides the health department with the latest immunization information on the student, the student can return to school immediately.
Updated records can be provided from Windsor and Leamington’s offices Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Proof of immunity is provided as an attachment.
Families can contact their healthcare provider for immunization and obtain missing immunization information. Healthcare providers fax updated immunization records to the healthcare department at 519-258-7288.
